Wonderful and so romantic! I could not put it down.
I had not read any of Lisa Kleypas' books before "Stranger in My Arms". I found the summary on the back of the book so intriguing I just had to get it. I really enjoyed reading this book because it was such a wonderful story, the characters seemed to be very believable and down to earth. Laura and Hunter were such a cool couple - they really complemented each other. The book was very uplifting and such a pleasure to read I hated for it to end. This is one of the best historical romances I have read in a long time. I will definitely buy more of her books. Well done, Lisa Kleypas!
Enjoyable but with problems
Lady Lara Hawksworth has spent the year following her husband's death becoming a better person and leading her own life. She hasn't missed the cold, hard man who never cared for her. So when she is informed that he is alive, her world collapses around her. And when she meets him and he is the same, yet different... wanting her, kind to her... she wonders if it would be wrong to fall in love with the new Lord Hunter Hawksworth. Especially if he isn't really her husband.
Lisa Kleypas has a real talent for writing hot, sexy stories about people who are a bit more "normal" than the ordinary hero and heroine of a romance. Lara and Hunter are both very likeable characters with flaws and secrets. And she's also done an amazing job because the majority of this book has to be in Lara's POV to keep the secret if Hunter is or isn't who he says he is. Yet, I did tire of Lara's avoidance of sex and her sometimes manipulative ways toward Hunter.
Still, an enjoyable book.
Better than "sommersby".
When I started this book and realize its plot I thought of fore-going it but for some reason it held me and I continued to read it. I enjoyed it thoroughly. It is must better........and although the beginning premise of whether Hunter is really her husband or an imposter is not unique, the twists by LK make this story unique. How anyone can see the "heroine" as manipulative, using sex, etc.. is beyond me as nothing could be farther from the truth. Her motives are very clear cut all the way through and "Hunter" acknowledges her honesty. The "pull" of the book for me was Hunter, a tormented man who deserves the peace he evolves into.
