House of Greed, House of Avarice
Among the books I've read in recent weeks concerning terrorism, the attack of 9/11, the war in Afghanistan and the Iraq War; Craig Unger's expose of the Bush family and friends economic ties to the Saudi ruling aristocracy is especially significant. Frankly, I'm a little disappointed, but not surprised, by the review in the Washington Post and the two reviews in The New York Times. Amazon.com is not the venue for debating whether or not mainstream media book critics have been objective and thorough in assessing a books like "House of Bush, House of Saud," but anyone who has thoroughly read Unger's exhaustive study would see that it is far more relevant than implied by the reviews published in two of our nation's leading newspapers. The book's narrative text and appendices numbering 298 pages, contains 989 end notes, including specific citations and explanatory notes. Contrary to implications put forth in some reviews, the author doesn't indict George W. Bush, his extended family and friends, or the Saudi aristocracy as conspirators in the 9/11 attack on the United States. Such an allegation or charge would be silly and hardly the possible outcome of such extensive research and study. Rather, Unger sets forth the record of intricate private and public financial relationships between the "House of Bush" and the "House of Saud," relationships that have had a lasting and tragic impact on the American experience. The reader comes to appreciate that the current administration is firmly grounded in greed and avarice. It's substance and motives are far removed from its self-proclaimed piety and righteous This book is not just a lengthy commentary by a Bush basher. It's thoroughly researched, readable and eye-opening. I would venture to guess that fewer that 5 percent of voters are familiar with the facts set forth in the "House of Bush, House of Saud." Readers should note that virtually none of the reviewers or commentators dispute the facts in this book.
Don't beleive the 1 star from 'a reader' from NY
The reader from NY who gave this book one star obviously did not bother to read the entire book before he wrote his review.
Had he bothered, he would have seen that Perle, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz were accurately portrayed in this book as PNAC hawks whose goal is global US hegemony. They were not involved in the Bush-Baker-Saudi financial linkages. This book is extremely well documented and footnoted. Its resources are impeccable and where there is doubt, the author duly notes it. It is an indictment of decades of Saudi influence over the Bush family and should be read by anyone interested in Richard Clarke's 'Against All Enemies'. These two books compliment each other very well and together present a complete, albeit very disturbing, picture of the real events behind 9/11.
